Introduction
Have you heard of the QGIS Certification Programme? The documentation page on the official QGIS website describes it, but almost no documentation exists in Japanese, so many people, even regular QGIS users, may not know it exists. This article explains the certificate, which officially recognizes contributions to QGIS and learning achievements.
What is the QGIS Certification Programme?
The QGIS Certification Programme is designed to promote contributions to the QGIS project and the delivery of high-quality QGIS training. An organization that is approved can issue a certificate to participants in the training it provides.

The approval process starts with an application from the organization. A review by the QGIS Project Steering Committee (PSC), which is based in Switzerland, and others follows. The review covers the organization's contributions to the QGIS project and the quality of its training materials, and ends with a decision on approval.
The following activities are listed as contributions to the QGIS project. (Quoted from the official QGIS website, with some changes.)
- Development and commits to QGIS
- Contributions to the QGIS documentation and training materials
- Translation of QGIS materials
- Plugin authoring
- Bug report filing
- Financial support for new feature development
- Donations to and sponsorship of QGIS
- Participation in local QGIS user groups
- Publication of QGIS training materials
- QGIS book authoring
MIERUNE and the QGIS Certification Programme
In 2021, the PSC approved MIERUNE under the QGIS Certification Programme. This approval covers MIERUNE's contributions to the QGIS project so far and the quality of its QGIS training. MIERUNE is the first certifying organization in Japan, and only about 50 exist worldwide.

Issuing certificates
As noted above, MIERUNE is a certifying organization, so it can issue a certificate under the QGIS Certification Programme to people who have attended specific training courses it provides. Issuing a certificate requires paying a fee of 20 euros, charged by the QGIS project. This fee goes back to the QGIS project through MIERUNE, so attending the training is also a way to contribute to the QGIS project.

Conclusion
This article introduced the QGIS Certification Programme. In MIERUNE's QGIS training, MIERUNE issues certificates from the QGIS Project Steering Committee for the public courses and for the customized corporate training derived from them. If you are interested, check the QGIS training page and apply for a course.
MIERUNE has also created a map that visualizes the number of certificates issued by organizations around the world under the QGIS Certification Programme: the QGIS Certificate Map. MIERUNE hopes to keep increasing the number of certificates through its training and to contribute to QGIS.
