- Features of MIERUNE's QGIS training
Recommended for
- Anyone who wants to learn how to work with geographic and location data through training
- Anyone who wants to know about instructor dispatch and customized training for companies
Introduction
QGIS is open-source GIS software that anyone can use freely, and people use it in many fields around the world. Its main appeals are low cost and easy customization. But QGIS has a lot of features, so it can be hard to know where to start. In that case, learning the basics thoroughly through training is a good option.
This article explains what MIERUNE's QGIS training covers and how the courses are organized. Both first-time users and those with some experience can learn at a step that suits them.
Features of MIERUNE's QGIS training
MIERUNE provides QGIS training taught by professionals with extensive experience. The courses cover a wide range of needs, from beginners who want to learn the basics of GIS to people who already use GIS and want to improve their skills further.
Here are some features of MIERUNE's QGIS training.
A beginner-friendly curriculum
The curriculum starts with basic operations, so even people who are new to QGIS can deepen their understanding by working with real GIS data. It explains GIS concepts and the basics of using QGIS carefully, and practical exercises help participants build their skills.
Practical instruction from professionals
The instructors are professionals well versed in GIS and QGIS, with extensive experience using them in real work. The training goes beyond explaining how to operate the software. Participants also learn practical knowledge, including how QGIS is used on the job and the know-how that comes with it.
Extensive support
When participants get stuck with QGIS, the instructor and support staff give individual help. This covers not only how to operate QGIS but also identifying the cause of errors and suggesting solutions. The thorough support eases participants' concerns and helps them learn smoothly.
Training formats: public courses and instructor dispatch
Public courses
Public courses are open to the general public. They are held regularly, and participants can apply for the date that suits them.

Features of public courses
- The courses are held online, so participants can join from anywhere in Japan.
- Support members attend in addition to the instructor, so the session can proceed with confidence even when problems occur.
- Anyone who meets the participation requirements can apply.
Apply for public courses on Peatix.
Cost
General ticket: 33,000 yen (tax included)
Student ticket: 3,300 yen (tax included)
Instructor dispatch
With instructor dispatch, an instructor travels to the location you specify, tailoring the training to the needs of your company or organization. Because participants learn from the datasets and projects they use in their actual work, they can build skills in a more practical and effective way.
This plan also suits requests such as “We want to introduce GIS in-house” and “We want our staff to acquire GIS skills.” MIERUNE provides training that looks ahead to use in the field and connects directly to actual work.

Features of instructor dispatch
- Training is held online, or in person with an instructor dispatched to the specified location.
- In person, participants learn while communicating directly with the instructor, so they can ask more detailed questions and get immediate feedback.
- Customized programs tailored to specific work are also available. Because the training uses the open data and the company's own data that participants use in their work, they gain a deeper understanding of how to use QGIS on the job.
Cost
From 550,000 yen (tax included)

Course structure
MIERUNE's QGIS training consists of four courses in total, designed so that taking them in order teaches QGIS systematically.
For people new to QGIS, the “Getting Started with QGIS: Basic Operations and Data Visualization” course is the recommended first step. This course builds a solid foundation in basic QGIS operations and the fundamentals of visualizing geospatial data.
After that, choose the courses that match your goals and interests and keep stepping up.
Getting Started with QGIS: Basic Operations and Data Visualization
This course teaches basic QGIS operations along with the steps from visualizing data to creating a map for printing. The content is the foundation for making use of QGIS.

Data Creation and Management
This course covers how to create new vector data in QGIS and how to manage data. It also covers how to edit attribute data and how to turn paper maps into GIS data (georeferencing).

Spatial Analysis: Vector
This course systematically teaches data analysis methods that use vector data (spatial analysis, geoprocessing, geometry processing, data management, and more), focusing on operations that are useful in practical work and research.

Spatial Analysis: Raster
This is a practical course that systematically teaches analysis with raster data, from loading and visualizing raster data to analysis, reclassification, and calculation. The content is designed for use in a wide range of fields, such as terrain analysis and satellite data analysis.

Certificates under the “QGIS Certification Programme”
MIERUNE's QGIS training has been approved by the QGIS Project Steering Committee for its contributions to the QGIS project so far and the quality of the training.
With this certification, MIERUNE can issue certificates to participants who complete training such as public courses. The certificate fee is included in the course fee and goes back to the QGIS project through MIERUNE, so taking a course also contributes to the project.

To learn more about the “QGIS Certification Programme,” see this article.
Conclusion
In addition to the regularly held public courses, MIERUNE flexibly accommodates instructor dispatch and customized training for companies. Consider QGIS training as an opportunity to build your QGIS skills.
